Course Description

Tuesdays, July 15 - August 19
Time: 10–11:30 a.m.
St. George’s Episcopal Church, 4715 Harding Pike

Nationally, rates of homelessness are at the highest level since the government began counting. This course will survey evidence that we know how to end homelessness if we are willing to make the policy choices to do so. The recent halving of homelessness among military veterans shows it is possible. But to end homelessness it is important to understand more about the problem and where it comes from. The course will address six questions: Who becomes homeless? Why? How can we end homelessness for people who experience it? How do societal responses to homelessness work or fail to work? How can we prevent homelessness for people at risk? And how can we change the conditions that give rise to homelessness? We’ll look at national data, including some international comparisons, and focus on our own backyard in Nashville. Course enrollment is limited to 140 participants. This class is not recorded.
