Course Description

This specialization focuses on ethical theory pertaining to why people believe and behave in such drastically different ways and yet label themselves all “moral.” As such, it will investigate theories on the reasons for difference and what everyday people can do about them to bridge—or ameliorate or reconcile, depending on how one views the situation—the differences at hand through applied moral leadership practices. These practices include—but of course are not limited to— clarifying, communicating, and collaboratively discussing and deliberating about moral social issues and what can be done to improve the actualization of moral goods such as access, fairness, honesty, justice, human respect, and others.

It aims to give learners an introduction to some of the most pressing issues of moral leadership today; how to talk and act clearly on the issue of moral difference across the diversity of humanity while using such understanding to respectfully and effectively pursue one’s own critical and claimed ideas of the moral good. In short, it is about addressing and living through conflict in a pluralistic environment. Within this specialization are three courses: 1) “Morality, Values, and Leadership in a Pluralistic Environment,” 2) “Moral Leadership: What is it, and how are you a Leader?” and 3) “Applied Moral Leadership through Gatherings and Conversations.”
